Invite Local Officials Adopt selected key government officials and invite them to attend the event or activity where you can show off your capabilities. Invite them to drop by and talk to your members about the community event and your role. As this is a public event, they will want to be there and be seen so this is a good opportunity to network with them. One of the reasons ham radio exists is to provide service to the public. Providing this service, and having it recognized locally, helps promote our other two goals, protection and recruitment. (Put this on your club letterhead if you have some) Your name Street Town, State YOUR PHONE! Date Title and name Address Town State zip Re: Invitation to meet with us on (date) Honorable title name: As title of the club I am writing to cordially invite you to meet with the Amateur Radio operators of your community and members of club at location on date between time and time at the event.. Ham radio operators will be setting up radio stations and providing communications for host org in unusual locations. In this way we will be supporting the event as well as practicing our emergency communications capabilities. In the past year alone, hams have made headlines with their work in wildfires, floods, storms, tornadoes and other crises. The hams provide emergency communications for many civic organizations in disasters. In addition, hams provide supplemental communications when normal systems are rendered inoperable or overloaded. We will be inviting the press to drop by, and will have brochures, information packets and other materials made available through the ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio, explaining our work. I look forward to your visiting this event. It should be fun and is also a validation to the hundreds of Amateur Radio volunteers who have spent thousands of hours providing emergency communications, public service work and other benefits throughout our community and region. I will call you about it in a few days. Sincerely, |
