If you are providing a copy of a PSA, particularly one that was recorded and edited on analog equipment, make sure that the copy is of good quality.

Have the PSAs clearly labeled and tightly affix the label to the media.  At the minimum include: PSA title, run time, producing organization and a local contact name, phone number and/or email.  Start and end dates when the PSAs should be run are also helpful.  You don’t want a Field Day PSA still running in July after the event is over.

Make sure that the timing is accurate.  Most PSAs are 30 or 60 seconds in length.  PSAs and are inserted with automated equipment.  A 31 second PSA will be cut off by the automated playback equipment at 30 seconds.  The PSA run time should be accurate within half a second or less.  The cable operator may not even run the PSA if the timing is too far off.

Make sure that you have the rights to run the material that you are using whether you produced the PSA yourself or if it is supplied by an outside agency like the ARRL.

Follow up with a thank you in writing to the cable company management for running the PSA.  They will appreciate it.

Website Creations

By the way… In writing this section we will be sharing many programs and web options.  They were current when we wrote this, but things on the Web change fast!  We are NOT endorsing any of them, only saying that we found them useful for our own needs.  Your mileage may vary.

Static websites are those websites that most clubs and groups have.  The content may have some hyperlinks in it, but not much else that actually does something.  These are fairly easy to create and there even are templates available to aid you.  Just put in your own information and post them to your site.

What’s that?  You don’t HAVE a website? ? (Arrrrgh!)
